Itinerary

Day 1 – Nairobi

Join your tour group at the hotel.

Day 2 – Aberdare National Park

This morning, we travel to Aberdare National Park, encompassing the beautiful, forested Aberdare Mountains and the heart of Kenya’s coffee-growing highlands. We arrive at our lodge, built beside a watering hole, for the start of our Kenya safari holidays. Rhinos and families of elephants are relatively common visitors, slaking their thirst as we settle back this evening. You can enhance your visit by choosing in-room buzzer alerts during the hours of darkness, to let you know whenever a spectacle is unfolding outside.

Day 3 – Lake Nakuru National Park

We depart this morning and head west to Lake Nakuru National Park, stopping along the way at Kenya’s most beautiful waterfall – Thomson Falls. Lake Nakuru is an ornithologist’s paradise, for hundreds of exotic species that call its shores home. At ground level, sightings of Rothschild giraffe, black and white rhino, lion, and leopard are not unusual. Our lodge tonight has commanding views over the lake, and is a great base for wetland game drives – we’ll enjoy our first one late this afternoon.

Day 4 – Lake Nakuru National Park – Lake Naivasha National Park

After another exciting game drive early this morning, we make our way to another of the lakes of Africa’s Great Rift Valley – Lake Naivasha. This natural oasis teems with animal life, from hippo and buffalo wallowing among the papyrus reeds to giraffes nibbling the acacia, Colobus monkeys leaping from tree to tree, and birds adding flashes of colour and exotic calls. There’s time to relax this afternoon and just listen to the wildlife around you.

Day 5 – Lake Naivasha National Park

This morning, we explore the Crescent Island Game Conservancy, a reserve located on the eastern side of the lake and a haven for viewing birds and game. We’ll also make a stop at Elsamere for a tasty afternoon tea. This small museum is the former home of Joy Adamson, author of ‘Born Free’, which was later turned into a hit film.

Day 6 – Maasai Mara National Reserve

No Kenya highlights tour would be complete without a stay in the Maasai Mara. Renowned not only for its year-round concentration of animals, which we’ll view on our next safari experience this afternoon, but also for its location directly in the path of the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra. We arrive at our camp, located in the very heart of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and head out on our first exploration.

Days 7-8 – Maasai Mara National Reserve

During our two full days in the Maasai Mara, it would be no surprise to see prides of lions on one of our game drives, or the fastest land mammal, the cheetah, hunting gazelle on the open plains. Keep an eye out too for a host of other large mammals, numerous pods of hippo that patrol the nearby river, and a selection of the Mara’s hundreds of species of birds.

Day 9 – Maasai Mara National Reserve – Nairobi

We begin our journey back to Nairobi, stopping along the way at a typical Maasai village to meet the locals and see how their daily life unfolds. In Nairobi, we’ll visit the Giraffe Centre for an up-close meeting with endangered Rothschild’s giraffes. Later, you’ll bid farewell to your tour group for your onward travel.

Tip of the Day for Your Grand Safari in Kenya

Stay Hydrated and Protect Against the Sun:

  • Kenya’s savannahs can get warm during the day, so carry a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the intense sun.
  • Lightweight, long-sleeved clothing in neutral colors can shield you from both the sun and insects while blending into the environment for wildlife viewing.
