Itinerary
Brisbane Departure
Tue 3 November 2026: arrive in Norfolk today. Transfer to accommodation and car hire will be available for collection at the property. The evening is at your leisure, and dinner is at your own arrangements.
Wed 4 November 2026: this morning, enjoy the Island Life Tour. Spend the morning touring Norfolk Island, gaining a true insight into the intricate nature of modern island life. Your guide will share the latest information on the island’s ethnic groups, nationalities, and languages spoken, including the Norfolk Island indigenous language. The tour will conclude with lunch at the Boatshed Restaurant at Governor’s Lodge Hotel.
During this week in Norfolk, guests will undertake their own activities; however, there will be some tours and dinners included where you will meet like-minded twitchers and make some new friends. This evening you’ll meet your Norfolk host for the week. Your host will join you for some dinners this week and will be able to answer any questions you may have about the island.
Tonight is an information and welcome evening. Starting off with a presentation from Norfolk Island National Parks to help set you up for the week. The Norfolk Island National Park and Botanic Garden was declared in 1986 and now makes up 19% of the land area of the island. The park is home to stunning scenery and walking tracks that take visitors on a journey through plant habitats found nowhere else on earth. Discover palm forests, walk under the tallest tree ferns on earth, and explore breathtaking stands of Norfolk Island pine growing up to sixty metres high.
Following the information session, join your host for a 2-course dinner at Paradise Hotel.
Thur 5 November 2026: Touring will commence with Margaret today. Please note that because of limited numbers at any one time on the Eco and Bird Tour, passengers will be split up across the week. Your tour date for the Eco and Bird Tour will be confirmed when you receive your final documents before travel. Norfolk Island’s unique birds are waiting for you! You can be one of the many visitors who say, ” This has been my best day in Norfolk!” after visiting easy access forest glades, private property, and stunning coastal areas. This is where 25 rare and endemic bird species can be found in the island’s subtropical rainforest. Sensational photographic opportunities. There will be morning tea provided, and comfort stops available. The sale is an easy stroll on a slight gradient without steps. After the bird tour concludes, there will be a picnic lunch provided.
The rest of the day and the evening are at leisure. When you make your reservation, ask our consultant about adding a clifftop fish fry this evening. You’ll taste some delicious local fresh fish with salads and delicious pies for dessert. (Additional cost applies).
Fri 6 November 2026: join Margaret for her Eco and Bird Tour. You’ll be advised which day you’re touring with Margaret when final documents are issued before travel.
The rest of the day is at leisure. Equipped with your bird list and information pack, you’ll be all set to search for Norfolk’s birdlife. The island is known for its unique endemic species like the endangered Norfolk Island Green Parakeet and Norfolk Island Robin, as well as large seabird colonies. The island is a breeding site for over 1% of the world’s population of Wedge-tailed Shearwaters and Red-tailed Tropicbirds. You might like to spend some more time leisurely wandering around the Botanic Gardens or perhaps spend some time down at Kingston, where the foreshore areas near Kingston Jetty and Slaughter Bay are good places to spot shorebirds like the Pacific Golden Plover and Wandering Tattler.
The evening is at leisure, and we suggest you try one of our great Norfolk restaurants. There are plenty to choose from.
Sat 7 November 2026: Today is at leisure. If you’ve already scratched off a few of our feathered friends on your list, then why not enjoy a leisurely breakfast at one of Norfolk’s great cafes or use your rental vehicle to set out and explore. How about a swim? Splash in the crystal-clear waters of Emily Bay or don a snorkel and seek out some of the amazing marine life that lives in the bay. Don’t want to get wet? What about visiting one of our fabulous museums or taking a stroll through the picturesque cemetery to look at the resting place of some of Norfolk’s convicts?
Tonight, meet Margaret and some of her family as they take you on the Norfolk Birds by Night tour. Venture out to see Norfolk’s nocturnal birds, including muttonbirds and black-winged petrels. You will also search for the morepork, and possibly the elusive little shearwater that has never been pinned down to species.
Sun 8 November 2026: The morning is at leisure today. You might like to visit Norfolk’s Sunday markets. The market features a variety of local crafts, art, souvenirs, and produce, along with live music and fresh coffee – and runs rain, hail, or shine.
This afternoon, Lilli will take everyone for a guided seabird walk through Norfolk’s most pristine 100 Acre coastal reserve. You will be introduced to the different ecosystems in this surprisingly diverse environment and meet the migratory species that call this reserve home for their summer breeding. Species you will likely encounter include the White Tern, the White-Capped Noddy and the Red-Tailed Tropic Bird. You will also learn about the nesting behaviours, migration patterns and cultural significance of these special visitors and have fantastic photo opportunities backdropped by Norfolk’s dramatic coastline.
Mon 9 November 2026: Today is at leisure for you to continue your hunt for some of our more elusive species. Have you got that green parrot photo yet? If not, you’d better head up to the National Park and grab a photo with the giant green parrot in the information centre.
This evening, make your way to Governor’s Lodge for a Farewell Dinner with your Norfolk host. Time to share your photos and exchange email addresses with newfound friends as you start to wrap up your week on Norfolk.
Tues 10 November 2026: Sadly, the week has come to an end. Guests will be transferred to Norfolk Island Airport for the journey home.
