Itinerary

  • Day 1 – Welcome to Darwin:
Darwin is a city of contrasts, where tropical warmth meets rich history. Join your Travel Director to uncover the capital’s highlights, from its distinctive architecture to the defining moments that shaped it. Wander through lush botanical gardens and take in sweeping coastal views from East Point Reserve. As the day fades, settle in for dinner by the waterfront, with great company setting the tone for the days ahead.
  • Day 2 – Darwin – Katherine:
Your journey south unfolds with deeper insight into the Top End’s wartime past. Pause for reflection at Adelaide River War Cemetery, a moving reminder of lives lost in defence of the nation. From here, nature takes centre stage as you arrive at Nitmiluk National Park on Jawoyn land. Step aboard a cruise through the striking Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge, a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience, where ancient sandstone cliffs rise high above the water, shifting in colour with every turn of the river. The pace doesn’t slow as you continue to the Katherine Outback Experience. Here, the Northern Territory’s pastoral heritage comes alive through storytelling and music; an immersive glimpse into life on the land that’s as authentic as it is entertaining.
  • Day 3 – Katherine – Kununurra:
Cross into Western Australia and arrive in Kununurra, where the outback feels vast and wonderfully remote. Step into the past at the Durack Homestead Museum, carefully relocated before the Ord River Irrigation Scheme reshaped the land and gave rise to Lake Argyle. Out on the water, take in the sheer scale of this vast freshwater reservoir on a scenic cruise, with birdlife overhead and endless horizons in every direction. Then return to Kununurra, a laid-back town with a character all its own, a quiet base for exploring the remarkable Kimberley region.
  • Day 4 – Kununurra:
This morning invites adventure, with the option to explore Purnululu National Park (own expense). Take to the air or journey by 4WD to witness the remarkable Bungle Bungle Range, their banded domes rising from the earth in a pattern shaped over millions of years. Later, swap wilderness for craftsmanship at the Hoochery Distillery. Here, meet the characters behind the craft and discover how their award-winning rums and whiskies are produced.
  • Day 5 – Farewell from Kununurra:
Wander through Mirima National Park, known as the ‘mini Bungle Bungles’, with your Travel Director while learning how the landscape was formed. Short and sweet, this trip comes to an end today. We hope your journey inspires an extended wanderlust for Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
