Day 2 – Nagoya, Japan

Nagoya is a major city on Japan’s Honshu Island and a key railway hub, linking travellers by bullet train to destinations across the country.

Day 3 – Kumano, Japan

Kumano is a historic region on Japan’s Kii Peninsula, renowned for its ancient Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trails and sacred shrines.

Day 4 – Kobe (for Kyoto), Japan

Kobe, a Japanese port city famous for the beef that bears its name, lies a short bullet train ride from Kyoto, the ancient capital renowned for its temples, shrines and castles.

Day 5 – Tokushima, Japan

Tokushima is a Japanese port city near the remote, mountainous Iya Valley, known for its dramatic slopes and vine-woven kazurabashi suspension bridges.

Day 6 – Beppu, Japan

Beppu, on Japan’s Kyushu Island, is famed for its hot springs and onsen, drawing visitors to soak in its geothermal waters.

Day 7 – Hiroshima, Japan

Hiroshima, rebuilt after the 1945 atomic bombing, is now a vibrant port city centred on the Peace Memorial Park, with Hiroshima Castle and the local pancake dish okonomiyaki among its features.

Day 8 – Kanmon Straits, Japan

The Kanmon Straits are the narrow waterway separating Japan’s main islands of Honshu and Kyushu, linking the cities of Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu.

Day 9 – Busan, South Korea

Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city, is a major port framed by mountains, hot springs and long stretches of sandy beach.

Day 10 – Nagasaki, Japan

Nagasaki sits in the northwest of Kyushu, a cosmopolitan port city with a history stretching back to the early 7th century.

Day 11 – Kagoshima, Japan

Kagoshima lies on the southern coast of Kyushu, watched over by the smouldering Sakurajima volcano across the bay.

Day 12 – Kochi, Japan

Kochi is a coastal city where centuries of trade left a mix of ancient mosques, synagogues and European colonial buildings, along with giant Chinese fishing nets at Fort Kochi.

Day 13 – Shimizu (for Mt.Fuji), Japan

Shimizu, a port town below Mount Fuji, is known for the Miho-no-Matsubara pine grove and its rich cultural history.
